Couple indicted in cop picture sharing case

PESHAWAR: A local court on Saturday indicted a fashion model and her husband for sharing ‘objectionable’ pictures of a policewoman on social media and making threats against her. The accused, including Neelum Ismail alias Bebo Bukhari and husband Syed Mohsin Ali Shah, decided to stand trial. The court of the additional district and session judge, Usman Wali, fixed the next hearing into the case for May 25 and asked the prosecution witnesses to appear before it on that date. The female accused, who is a fashion model as well as the presenter at a Pashto television channel, was arrested on Apr 20, 2015, by the Federal Investigation Agency after an additional district and sessions judge rejected her pre-arrest bail petition. Earlier, the FIA took her husband into custody. Later, the Peshawar High Court granted bail to the couple on June 12, 2015, on condition of furnishing two surety bonds each valuing Rs500,000. The complainant in the case is the woman cop’s bother, Imran Khan, who alleged that the fake objectionable photos of her sister were sent on his phone by the accused through WhatsApp Messenger. During investigation, it was found out that the cellphone used in the offence belonged to the female accused, whereas the SIM card was registered in the name of her husband. The FIA claimed that her cellphone was also taken into possession and the forensic tests of the said phone showed that the pictures were sent through it. The couple was initially charged under Section 36 (violation of privacy of information) and Section 37 (unauthorised modification, altering or damaging information) of the Electronic Transaction Ordinance 2002. Saifullah Muhib Kakakhel, lawyer for the complainant, submitted an application for adding Section 506 of Pakistan Penal Code to the case as the accused had also allegedly hurled threats on the woman cop and threatened her that her photos would be uploaded on different social media forums, including Facebook.
